Aubrey Springers
Conformation and Performance English Springer Spaniels
Breeder/ Performance Handler Allison Miele
Dogs have been a part of my life for over 40 years starting with a Shetland Sheepdog that was my constant companion for almost 16 years. My love for the English Springer Spaniel started in 1994 after my husband and I adopted an adorable freckle face Springer; unknown to us was the short time she would be with us. My heart was captured by the characteristics of the breed and months later we welcomed Aubrey to our home. Beauty was only the surface of this devoted, loving girl who respected humans not sure about dogs and a fun loving eager to please companion that embraced new adventures with a tail wag and a paw high five! Not shown in conformation, she exceeded expectations in obedience and the newly formed agility arena. She is the foundation of Aubrey Springers and the generations of offspring carry on her legacy of beauty and companionship.
We reside in Perkasie Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia, on a 5 acre partially wooded property. Our Springers have an acre fenced in area for exercise and play and a ½ acre agility training area. Currently we have 4 Springers that live with us in our home. Shimmer, the resident cat, joined us at a young age. Raised by the Springers, when not training, you can usually find them snuggled up on the couch with their housemates or us. Found on the roadside, a tiny calico kitten now known as Samantha is learning the ropes to be included in the Aubrey pack. Although they are bird dogs of a sort, they tolerate the antics of Bomber the green cheek conure. They are curious, but the K9 crew enjoy watching the chickens and enjoy the eggs they are gifted with daily. There are no kennel runs on the property or used for containment. Our Springers are crate trained and seem to view the crate as their own apartment dwelling.
Although all of our English Springers Spaniels meet the breed standard, select are shown in conformation and all participate in varied performance events with specific emphasis in AKC agility. Please visit the Awards and Recognition page to view their accomplishments.
Dogs in my breeding program are not considered to participate until they are at least 2 years old and have been cleared medically including:
- proven sound temperament
- orthopedic certification, OFA, of hips, elbows and patellar
- eye certification and clearance for inherited disease and they follow up with yearly eye exam certification
- thyroid clearance for hypo/hyper thyroid diseases
- cardiac clearance for anomalies and/or problematic dysrhythmias
Puppies remain with their dam until at least 9 weeks of age and have successfully completed veterinary exams including eye exams. All pups are micro chipped with the AKC Reunite Program microchip© before leaving their littermates.
